Failure domain

Failure Domains are physically demarcated data center spaces whose services, such as power, connectivity, and cooling, are sufficiently isolated from all other failure domains so that should any event which disrupts these services occur no other failure domains are directly affected. This isolation provides protection against highly localized events, such as fires and internal flooding, but does not protect against events affecting a wider area, such as industrial action, warfare, or natural disasters.

Foundation node

A foundation node is the first infrastructure node that you deploy in the MCP environment. You use the foundation node to deploy all other infrastructure nodes. The foundation node includes the same set of tools and services as other infrastructure nodes. In addition, the foundation node includes the Metal-as-a-service virtual machine that enables bare-metal provisioning and the SaltStack virtual machine that runs Salt Master and Cookiecutter which are used to provision VCP and MCP CP services on all infrastructure nodes.
